It’s a curious thing, when I start up the computer (openSUSE 13.2 w/Plasma5) KMix does not start.
What this means is that the volume control does not show on the panel, and the hotkeys on the laptop do not work to increase/decrease the volume or mute the system.
After booting up I go into the applications menu, type “kmix” and click “run kmix”. At that point, the hotkeys work and the indicator/control shows up on the panel.
When I reboot the computer and log in, kMix is not running and I have to manually run kmix again.
Any suggestions? Is this s known issue (of Plasma5)?
Thanks.
Enter KMix’s settings and make sure that “Autostart” is activated (in “Start”).
If that doesn’t help, have a look whether you have some file in ~/.config/autostart that’s maybe disabling the autostart.
Is this s known issue (of Plasma5)?
No. Works fine here, and ever did since over a year ago.
PS, I overlooked that part:
That means you have the KDE4 version of KMix installed, right?
AFAIK, this does not autostart in Plasma5.
Possible workarounds:
- install the KF5 based kmix 15.04.2 from KDE:Applications (I would actually recommend that, you’ll get all latest KDE Applications releases from there, 15.04.2 at the moment)
- create an autostart file yourself in ~/.config/autostart/, or configure kmix to be run in systemsettings5->Startup and Shutdown->Autostart (see also e.g. https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=122757)
