For a couple of months now the preview pane in Kmail2 does not display email quite right, see the picture here: http://paste.opensuse.org/27019599 .
As you can see there is a white border around the email, however the contents of the email fill the entire window. Notice where the mouse cursor is, on the right, this is where the scroll bar actually is. In order to scroll I would click there and move up or down, not where the scroll bar appears to be. The same holds for the text, if I want to copy some text I have to click and drag about a line and a half higher than the text is displayed.
I have no idea how this came about, or what is causing it. I have tried modifying the *rc files that are associated with kmail and kontact. I tried just deleting them and let new files be generated. This did not fix the problem.
I thought the problem might be related to mixing repos (I used the qt5 repo at one stage), but eventually I did a `zypper dup’ with just the standard Tumbleweed repos and that did not fix it either.
Stranger still, on my other computer, also using Tumbleweed, I do not have this problem (though the scroll bar is of the same non-oxygen theme as in the picture, rather than the oxygen theme applied to everything else).
This does not hinder actual use (when kmail works, lately hangs with `retrieving folder contents’) but it is kind of annoying, I would be grateful for any pointers as to what might be going and and how to fix it.
Hard to tell. You already stated yourself that you don’t see it on another machine with the same TW install. There’s a couple of things you can do:
Try moving around the “parts” of the layout, i.e. resize them in width, height etc. and see if they “fall” back in place
Create a new user, login as that user, start kmail and check whether it’s OK for that user. If so, apply the theme and check again.
Since Plasma handles all the graphics, you could also remove the plasma* files in ~/.config whilst not logged in. That would bring back the default desktop appearance.
Thanks. I forgot to mention that I had already tried the new user account, and things look as expected there. Subsequently I tried to diff the contents of .config from each account to try and track down the differences, but did not find anything that seemed to be relevant. (That’s a pretty big thing to have forgotten I tried, sorry :embarrassed:).
Removing the plasma* files did not fix things.
i had this, was a bug in kmail due to fractional screen scaling. for me i had set scaling to 1.5, changing to 1 or 2 solved it
Unfortunately, this did not work for me either, at 1 or 2 the same white border remains…
I spoke too soon; changing the scaling seems to have worked, though for some reason it needed a couple of restarts, but now I can reliably recreate the border by changing the scaling and fixing by changing to 1 or 2.
