Kmail won't open attachments "Invalid environment block."

Reported here: 1227388 – Kmail: Error opening attachments: "Invalid environment block."

But since nobody else seems to have this issue, maybe it isn’t a bug, but I did something silly?

Tumbleweed, up-to-date. Wayland-session.

Kmail, any email with an attachment, click on it, error message:

“Invalid environment block.”

If I start kmail via cli, message:

kf.kio.gui: Failed to launch process as service: “app-org.kde.okular@6af406497e054a04a6adc583bf0242da.service” “org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs” “Invalid environment block.”

printenv prints all environment variables, see the bug report.

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240701
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.9.7-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz
Memory: 31.1 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics

I’ve been searching ./profile and ./bashrc for any suspicious env variables. None.

BASH_FUNC_mc%%=() { . /usr/share/mc/mc-wrapper.sh
}

This is most certainly invalid as environment variable for systemd/D-Bus.

Yes, but how to get rid of it for good?

Search where it is defined and delete it there?

If you had a hint for me, you’d be very welcome: How to find out?

I removed midnight commander and now kmail seems (let’s test it for some time) to be back at normal.

Maybe I need an alternative software to midnight commander. Any advice welcome.
