The most reliable method I know is to upload all messages to an imap
server, in the same machine or in the local network. Then download to
the target client.

Alternatively you can use the default import path in Kontact/Kmail: File > Import messages. This was what I did when KMail 2 were introduced, and it worked fine. Working in Kontact, I created a new directory under ‘Local Folders’ and imported the whole old KMail structure into it rather than inbox to inbox and so on, though you may of course organise it the way you prefer.
