Kmail, after working flawlessly for a whole month, suddenly stopped working. It doesn’t run anymore in the system tray when I turn on the pc and if I try to run it I get an error message that says the program will be closed because:
(of course this will remove all mails in there too, so be careful, you could also just rename or move it)
Or open akonadiconsole and remove the “Local Folders” agent in the first “Agents” tab, then restart Akonadi (there’s a menu option in akonadiconsole for that, or just run “akonadictl restart”) and then start KMail. KMail will try to create it again on start.
Thank you, deleting the trash folder made Kmail run again without error messages but it gives me another problem.
The application seems to hang when it’s synchronizing with the folders of my e-mail account. At boot Kmail doesn’t check for new mails and if I try to do it manually the whole process gets stuck. In the bottom right status bar of Kmail’s window it shows a 0% during the “Mail Filter Agent” process and stays to 0% with no life sign whatsoever.
Actually I have already had this kind of issue :shame: and to solve it I deleted my mail profile to recreate it once again but then I got the error of my first post, so this kind of workaround doesn’t solve my issue. What can I do?
You can also check the status of the mail resources in akonadiconsole, and maybe try to restart them separately there.
Btw, the Mail Filter Agent shouldn’t cause this, but you can also try to remove that.
Anyway I followed this thread:
and the DB console of Akonadi gives me this result:
id:6
name: birthdays and anniversaries
remoteld: akonadi_birthdays_resource
name: akonadi_birthdays_resource
may this be related to my issue?
I doubt it.
But you can try to remove the birthdays resource. Either in akonadiconsole or in “Configure Desktop”->Personal Information->Configure Akonadi-Resources.
Kmail has a weird behaviour: most of the times I power on the pc it runs along the system in the system tray but if I open the application window, the bottom right status bar shows always 0% for the Mail Filter Agent process and it doesn’t check for new e-mails, even if I try to do it manually, neither I can’t send anything.
So, wondering why the application refuses to run as it should by itself, I noticed that Kmail starts with my e-mail account in offline mode. When I tried to set it online through the program itself, nothing happened. The strange thing is that if I do the same thing restarting my mail agent through the Akonadi console everything goes fine, the only flaw is the persistent 0% Mail Filter Agent Status bar but I can send/read mails without any problem.
Btw, the Mail Filter Agent shouldn’t cause this, but you can also try to remove that.
If I try to remove/abort the Mail Filter Agent through the Akonadi console, after a reboot it comes up again to bother me and my mails:.
If I run after I turned on my pc:
akonadictl restart
Kmail works great and I finally get rid of the persistent 0% status bar. Is there a way to avoid to restart every time the Akonadi server?
Yes, that’s a bug in KMail.
If akonadi isn’t running yet (i.e. KMail has to start it), KMail “forgets” to turn the akonadi resources into online mode.
You could try to enable the option “Show Events” in the desktop’s digital clock, which makes it display events from akonadi calendars and therefor makes Plasma (the desktop) start Akonadi too.
It might run in time for KMail then (I’m not sure as I normally don’t start KMail on login).
When I tried to set it online through the program itself, nothing happened.
The resources should go online if you manually check for mail.
Thank you for your help! Kmail works again as it should after I enabled “Show Events” in the digital clock but I can’t get rid of the 0% Mail Filter Agent status bar by myself, instead I have to wait some minutes before it just disappears.
