kmail problems with 13.1rc1

The most intractable problem I’m having with 13.1rc1 is probably a KDE
issue, but kmail is giving me fits. Updating from 12.3, kmail appears to
get all the existing messages - at least the folder list and message lists
look right. The problem is that when I select a message, I get a
notification that fills the message box telling me that it is retreiving the
messages for the folder - and hangs there.

This goes on for a long time - minutes to hours - with no progress. The
program is still responsive it just doesn’t present the message and such
things as changing to another folder is very slow. To further confuse the
issue, the messagee body will sometimes appear after an indeterminate wait.
Selecting another message starts the long wait again. Refering to top or
ksysguard shows a consistent and low cpu usage (6-8%) for kmail as long as
the wait message is up. One of the akonadi processes also shows the same
low cpu usage during this time so that could well be the point of the
problem but I can’t tell.

Any thoughts on where to with this issue?

Is yours /home from older KDE version. If so, try setup new user.
It seems that KDE do not update configurations properly. It is shown
particularly in Kmail and Knode

I ran into that in early updates to 12.3 - but they finally got it right.
I’m suspecting that some "mixed"storgar locations are at the root of the
problem but I’m looking for answers before I go through a tangled export-
imnport dance. The specific instance for the problem is a 12.3->13.1 update.
