Kmail - many duplicate messages

OpenSUSE kernel updated to 11.2 2.6.31.12-18-desktop (mostly - boot PAE sometimes). Updates are current. For personal e-mail I’m using Kmail. Been getting frustrating sets of multiple/duplicate e-mails. Pop mail is on pop.att.yahoo.com server. I have several e-mail addresses on the same server. I want to leave messages ON the server because I need to get ALL messages with more than one machine at different intervals (days or weeks apart). I have Bogofilter installed with default filter settings and no changes to filters yet. No spamassassin installed. I do move messages from the inbox to new folders and subfolders in Kmail. I can delete a messgage or duplicate messages but they often reappear. According to the POP3 RFC the UIDL command gives a Unique ID for a message and is related to how a mail program knows that a copy of a message is already present on the machine. I’d like to leave messages on the server until I delete the message from trash if possible. I’m not sure how all this interacts and/or if I may have changed a setting or misconfigured something that would cause this. Can anyone make a suggestion and/or enlighten me on some of this ?

Can you check with some other mail client?
I have never seen anything like this with kmail. I am using kmail for years now.

Additionally. Don’t know if this relates to “ATT” -Yahoo servers … still looking around for something current on this.

This from Yahoo help:
The Yahoo! External POP Client uses the POP3 protocol (RFC1939), including the UIDL command.

For the best user experience, we strongly recommend the implementation of the optional UIDL command from the POP3 specification and the extended response codes in RFC 2449 and RFC 3206. That said, we still do use the LAST command from RFC 1460 for servers that do not support the UIDL command.

Yeah. Most of the info where this occurs is very old. I have NEVER had it happen to me either. I’ll give Evolution or something else a try. Like Kmail though.

Maybe a late reply, but is your solution still using another email client? I’ve got the same problem, already for a long period of time, went back to using webmail, but still I prefer to use kmail.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem with evolution. I have installed (seemingly successfully) the plug-in evolution-remove-duplicates-0.0.4-1.97.i586.rpm but there is no sign of it in Edit-> Plugins.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

AtT/Yahoo doesn’t support UIDL, or didn’t when I last checked.

Your best bet might be to use fetchmail to retrieve the mail from att, then set kmail to get it from the local mailbox. Unless something has changed, fetchmail is pretty good at keeping a local database of messages already received so that it won’t request them again.
