This started last week. Suddenly Kmail2 4.7.2, on KDE 4.7.4 is downloading all my old emails from the only pop account I have configured.
After doing it for the first time early last week I deleted everything. Then it download everything again three days in a row - about 850 e-mails each time, for the past three days.
I have openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64).
I went through all the Kmail settings and restored them to default yesterday. I also read in an old post that restarting Akonadi solved this problem for someone, but neither setting everything to default ( which I think is where everything was set to in the first place ) nor restarting Akonadi helped. Everything was downloaded again today.
I don’t think this is a problem with my e-mail provider ( Bell Sympatico ). My iPhone functions properly with this same account. It does not download old e-mails.
I can not think of any updates or recent changes I made that might have made a difference.
How can I fix this?
Thank you.

Downloading email from a pop3 server that keeps old emails, and not downloading them all again
is a kludge. The client has to keep a list of mail identifiers that are already downloaded in
order to not download them again.
If that list gets corrupted in the client, the checking fails, or the ids are changed in the
server… there are many things that can fail.
All those problems are solved if you use imap, but from what I recall I doubt that sympatico
provides it.

Thank you for the reply. Does anyone know how to restore that client list? With Kmail it is probably stored with Akonadi. Any suggestions?

Sorry, no. I use fetchmail, and also thunderbird. And I do not keep mail on pop3 servers.
I guess that kmail would download the emails this once, and then remember again.
Ah! I just remembered, that gmail with pop3 uses a different system: you have to mark the date
on which you download mail on the webmail service. I don’t think sympatico uses that system,
but just in case.
