Kmail crashes when when accessing random emails

Kmail crashes when I highlight random emails in the email list. Kmail will be working perfectly, and I will highlight an email and it will crash. The behavior seems totally random. It happens on text emails, html emails, whatever. For example, the most recent email that crashes the app is a newsletter I receive daily. Yesterday’s does not crash Kmail. It can be from any sender. I am able to open the emails using kate from the actual .local-mail-directory and see nothing unusual. I am running Kmail version 5.23.1 (23.04.1) under Frameworks 5.106.0 and Qt 5.15.9 (built against 5.15.9). I have tried akonadictl fsck and vacuum, I have deleted the akonadi directory in .local/share and the .dat files in .config/akonadi and the behavior persists.

I’d appreciate any help, thanks.

@bearymore:

So not the KMail in the main openSUSE Leap 15.4 repository – assuming that, there isn’t a patch which I haven’t yet applied – there isn’t – I’ve checked just now –

 > kmail --version
kmail2 5.19.3 (21.12.3)
 >
 > kf5-config --version
Qt: 5.15.2
KDE Frameworks: 5.90.0
kf5-config: 1.0

In fact, it seems that, you’re using the newest Tumbleweed Qt5 KMail version –

  • Assuming that, you have the complete newest KDE environment, you’ll have to raise a KDE Bug Report against KMail.
    I hope that, Dr. Konqi popped up when KMail crashed – if it did, use it to submit the «Crash» Bug Report – the core dump will be automatically included in your submission …

BTW: It’s super useful if you include the “Segmentation fault” information in the Bug Report’s Summary.
