Kmail cannot send emails SMTP

Hello everyone,

first of all thank you to anyone who spends time reading and trying to help me solve my problem.

Already some time back my kmail stopped being able to send emails from one day to the next. Receiving mails, however, continues to work well. I’ve searched different forums and have not been able to find a solution.

The error message I’m receiving is as follows:

“E-Mail Sending Failed
Failed to transport message. The remote host closed the connection.”

I’m still using the same two SMTP accounts as before when sending mails still worked. Of course, I’ve let kmail auto-detect the connection settings and also tried other settings that are allowed according to the mail providers website. According to this linkanother user had a similar problem and was asked to provide telnet infos. So I’m providing them below but this doesn’t seem to be the issue:

telnet smtp.gmail.com 587
Trying 2a00:1450:400c:c07::6c…
Connected to smtp.gmail.com.
Escape character is ‘^]’.
220 smtp.gmail.com ESMTP f19sm4252111wmq.34 - gsmtp

For the other provider, I get a very similar message.

Apart from that, I’m running openSUSE Leap 15.3 with KMail Version 5.14.2 (20.04.2). Not sure which other information would be needed to support, but I’d very much appreciate any hints!

@owlrock:

There were some issues using KMail when using the Google “GMail” as an e-Mail provider but, AFAIK those issues were resolved –
