**Where apart from ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail does kmail keep account data, such as login data/names of pop/smtp servers?
**
I wanted to install an entirely clean version of kmail, so I uninstalled/re-installed kmail via YAST. I manually deleted ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail. After installing kmail I found that the account data of my Yahoo account were still listed in the kmail configuration panel.
Shall I delete the Yahoo account within kmail prior to uninstalling the kmail package?
As of KDE 4.4 and later the account data (if I am not entirely mislead by recent development) are handled by the Akonadi framework. Backup of this framework was effectively a critizied issue and an efficient backup and administration has yet AFAIK not been implemented.
Maybe somebody more into the KDE4 development can give better inside on how to backup / handle the Akonadi based data or if there have been changes for what concerns these problems.
Yes, as far as I have read up now, too, Akonadi caches Kontact data in some internal MySQL-server. Any idea how I can find the tables used for that purpose?

I don’t know where it stores the tables, but in any case make sure that you have installed the latest KDE updates (there are plenty of them). They fix a critical bug with Akonadi: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571546
