How can I keep and display deleted messages in INBOX itself rather than
moving them to Trash?
This feature is available in Evolution and Thunderbird and I find it
very handy.
Is it even possible to do this with KMail?

What?
Messages you have not read are visible.
Messages you have read are visible.
Messages may be saved where you want them, and visible.
Messages you do not want to save may be deleted.
Deleted messages are deleted.
And since they ARE deleted they are gone. They are not here, and not
visible.
See how that works. (If you want to see them, don’t DELETE them.)
