Hello I have a new Hp-2133 that is running SLED/Gnome. I also am trying to run a wireless broadband modem. Using Yast2, under modem, I and told “Network Manager is enabled” it will them prompt me to install kinternet, which does not appear to be on the machine. I have no external CD/DVD driver. So I was hoping to download the driver and repository? and install from there.
Now pehaps it is on the machine but it only seems to want to install from d:///, in Yast2
So in some knows where the kinternet file in generally located, I could find it easier. If not how would I know which vwersion is correct.
Lastly, I configured my wvdial file and while this generally works, it is sometime eratic. Especially if I remove the modem (use it on another machine) and then plug in back in…
Are you sure you have the correct repositories added? IIRC in older versions of OpenSuse you had to add them manually, as in copying and pasting the addresses into your list.
If you have kinternet installed, it should be in your program menu under “internet”.
In 11.1 I have kinternet installed at /usr/share/doc/packages/kinternet
Thanks, I checked and do not have kinternet on rhe machine. Also don’t have SPident either, so knowing where I am Service pack wise is a problem. Since I don’t have an external CD/DVD burner, install is not really an option. I was hoping just to find the correct kinternet version and repository, download them and install from an SD card. (of hard drive).
I read you advice to another a few days ago:
“Well, to start. you can disable Network Manager by going into Network Devices / Network Settings / Global Options and choose “use traditional method with ifup”.”
I am using SLED with Yast2, and it was under Network Card. Yet when switching Global Options, it wants to install kinternet. So I am back at square one.
Any thought on how I can find the right file and repositories/depencies and get them installed with an external CD?
Could you dig up your install disc and somehow find a CD / DVD drive and get kinternet off that and put it on a flash drive?
Otherwise, I would suggest posting your question about SLED repos in the Install / Boot / Log in section. Sorry but I don’t know anything about how to use the repos in SLED.
Thanks. I do have another PC and was hoping to find the files on the CD and transfer via an SD casrd. However it is a recover disk not an install disk, and it appears to all bundled as one file.
I will repost in the other sub forum, and I do appreciate your help. Thank you.
