It would seem as though Caldera/SCO suffers from common bi-polar disorder. Apparently, they are neither trust worthy nor remotely imaginative using the figure-head and shadow tactics of corporate name change; etc.
Their distasteful and poorly thought out marketing practices and disregard for professional restraint have all come to a spearhead this year of 2010 resulting in their losing at the hands of Novell. Kind of ironic that Caldera/SCO had gotten the UNIX product in a sale from the noble Novell only to turn against the giant.
Poetic, that some may not win in this argument where Novell would be invincible. Novell can merely cast aside discrepancy due to the fact that they can state “we sold the license and source for the UNIX V system but, none of the derivative works, models; etc. were included in the transaction due to no money or agreement over the matter.” All after the aforementioned statement Caldera/SCO is out in the breeze swinging anyway.
Tap dancing in a mine field isn’t a really bright thing to pursue and biting the hand that feeds you is suicide. Needless to say, due to Novell’s champion management style, they have insured that Linux will in fact be free for everyone for the rest of the time that it exists.
Pretty King Arthur of them.
It only took 7-plus years to achieve a state of grace and closure but, what’s done is done. On to the next chapter.
Viva Novell – I always liked them anyway. Networking, UNIX, they save SuSE from extinction, and now they rescue Linux on a global scale as well as collaborate on .Net with Microsoft. They’re making quite a name for themselves.
You don’t see many companies like Novell anymore – maybe dinosaurs aren’t really extinct yet after all. It is nice that Novell remembers “old school” business prose and walks the walk.
Here’s to openSuSE 1100.2
Take care all and enjoy some Linux, Novell’s treat.
