I’m having issues with my Kindle for PC OpenSuse 11.3 install. I’ve installed it using wine and configured Wine to run it in Windows 98 mode. It starts up and gets to the login/registration screen every time, but it will not allow me to register my account for this laptop, it always says that the connection has timed out. Any suggestions?

Have you considered running Virtualbox and creating a Windows Virtual Machine guest? I use it for all my “non-Linux” stuff, such as iTunes, Harmony Remote, etc. Works really well.
