[opensuse-kernel] Patch openSUSE Kernel for nouveau

for fulfilling https://features.opensuse.org/307588 it is needed that openSUSE Kernel gets patched with upstream patch:

commit d5f3c90d4f3ad6b054f9855b7b69137b97bda131
Author: Marcin Kościelnicki <koriakin@0x04.net>
Date: Thu Feb 25 00:54:02 2010 +0000
drm/nv50: Implement ctxprog/state generation.
This removes dependence on external firmware for NV50 generation cards.
If the generated ctxprogs don’t work for you for some reason, please
report it.

does this mean that were are forced to use the radeonhd and/or nouveau or that we can black list them or delete them from xorg drivers :
and normaly use the Ati catalist drivers and the Nvidia drivers ???

Much talk about nouveau but where is a Opengl driver thats equal or better then what the nouveau hackers can come up with ??? :frowning:

I myself dont need the nouveau driver its blacklisted
and 2.6.33 from this moment let me install the Nvidia driver.

Per this guide: openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users - openSUSE Forums
is there not an rpm xorg-x11-driver-video ? That is where the “nv” driver is located.

why not ask your questions on the mailing list where you got this
info???

AFAIK blacklisting nouveau is always possible. I tried nouveau and it’s incredibly fast. But no 3D support (yet).

Oldcpu

there is a rpm : xorg-x11-driver-video-7.4-106.1.x86_64.rpm
But wil there be a nv driver when 11.3 comes out thats my question

If it is in xorg-x11-driver-video then it will likely be in 11.3. It may not be the default installed driver though.

So there still will be a need to save your xorg.conf and your latest nvidia / radeon driver
and copy those to there places in 11.3 from backup
and install them again
And if xorg is altered in any way use xorg from your 11.2 dvd / cd
