dont know if this is a good section for this thread, but its now maybe 5 weeks since i have this problem, tried to solve it and thought it will be allright but its still here… The problem is:
sometimes, dont know when, but suddenly when i type something, lets say i am typing something in openoffice i cant use any letters on keyboard… when i pres for example letter f, sub menu in top opens a file menu, when i press t, sub menu opnes tools menu… somehow those letters that are underlined in submenu starts to work!! also, when my computer starts and when grub menu loads, i cant move to other options like choosing windows to start or go to filesafe mode… i used to disable it by pressing ctrl+alt maybe four or five times…it also happens, when 3D effects are on… when i for example open Yast and want to run graphic card and monitor option or any other option I simply cant!!!
seems like some shortcuts are blocking my keyboard…AND THE STRANGE THING IS that it happens in Vista as well so I dont know where is the problem!!
And also, when it happens, and i press some letter, dont know which one it is cause it seems they are always differt, a beep sound appears!!
PLease help, this is very anoying, sometimes I am writing a lot for my school and suddenly i cant!!!
On possible reason is that many applications have two cursors, a text cursor and a mouse cursor.
If the mouse cursor drifts into certain areas of the screen, it causes keyboard input to change from affecting the text to affecting some other aspect of the software.
Next time it happens, check that your mouse cursor is over a text area of the screen.
Are you sure your CTRL / ALT keys aren’t sticking (a “hardware” problem)? There are also accessibility settings that could cause this behaviour, but in both OSes at the same time is very improbable. Did you try another keyboard?
no, i am sure ctrl and alt are ok… it always happens when i want to log in to my e-mail adress for example and i need to write this symbol - @ (it happend again ****…) because i need to press ctrl - alt - V. i ve got my keyboard set up for my country… also, when pressin ctrl - alt - del to restart computer it happens, the same in linux - ctrl - alt- backspace to restart X… i am still discovering WHY is it so and where to disable this stupidity!!

Because you have problems in both SUSE and Vista it absolutely sounds like a
hardware problem. A sticking key (or two). From your description I can conclude
that most likely the Ctrl is intermittently sticking open (when you want it
down) OR staying down (electrically) when you want it up.
Maybe a faulty keyboard controller chip.
If it were me I would clean and vacuum the keyboard throughly, and if that
didn’t fix it I would try a different keyboard.
oukej, so, i reinstall my computer via CD that was brought with my laptop - i discovered that it happens also when i press alt plus a letter, its not only ctrl plus alt plus v but its only alt plus a letter, almost every letter does the same… it completly mess up my notebook, cant write at all, need to restart my pc… i read that alt plus a letter enables correspondent menu in windows but i cant disable it, even with presing the same combination of keys… i remember, that maybe a month ago i updated my Bios, maybe thats a problem… dont think i can go back to previous version of Bios… and also, by pressing ctrl and alt maybe 6 or 7 times disables this but i would like to completly dissable it… the best would be to try different keyboard but dont have that option now…
and also. when it happens i cant in Vista start any aplication via double click on its icon, it only shows properties of that icon but i cant run it… seems like desktop is stuck or closed or i dont know… i can only open aplication via right clik, and than open, no direct double clik on icon

Read your laptop’s documentation. Because laptop keyboards are smaller than
those for desktops, there are fewer keys. Most manufactures make up for that by
having magic combinations of certain keys do different things than is expected
for desktop.
Once you learn the magic you will be ok. So read the owners manual!
But, if you learn that your machine’s keyboard is not performing as the
instructions indicate it should THEN you know for certain that the hardware is broken, and you need to have the machine serviced.
Maybe if you list for us the exact make and model number, some kind soul would
download the manual from the manufacturer’s web site and read it for you.
Wouldn’t that be nice!
What happens, if when that occurs, you press <CTR><ALT><F2> to go to a terminal. Then as soon as you get at the terminal login, you press <CTR><ALT><F7> to go back to the gui.
okay, thanks for all replies, i really thought its a shortcut problem and the only way how to prove it was to use another keyboard… my friend brought me one yesterday and everything was ok so its definitely my keyboard alt key problem!! i am gonna send my laptop to service the keyboard…
