Keyboard & touchpad not detected when using Linux 4.17

Hello,
I’m writing this post because after installing the usual updates that were available for my Tumbleweed system, I noticed that when booting my laptop with Linux 4.17.x, an Asus X556UV, the laptop’s in-build keyboard & touchpad are not detected and thus cannot be used.
However, all the external input devices are detected and work correctly. Thus, the only way for me to use the computer is to connect an USB mouse, log into Gnome Shell using the “on-screen keyboard” feature of GDM, and then enable bluetooth and connect my bluetooth keyboard.
The 4.16 kernel used to work perfectly, 4.17.1 and 4.17.2 are affected by this problem. I also installed the latest kernel-default from here http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/standard/x86_64/ and that kernel (4.18.0 rc1) isn’t affected by this problem.
Relevant part of the output of libinput list-devices on Linux 4.18 (not affected by the problem):

The same command, if run on Linux 4.17, produces a similar output, but without the Elan touchpad & Asus keyboard entries.

Should I file a bug? Is there anything else I can do to help the kernel team solve the problem?
Thank you in advance for your attention!

Good preliminary diagnostic work! Yes, I would file a bug report for this regression.

this issue has been seen before

fix was, disconnect all usb devices and reboot

if keyboard and mouse work reconnect all usb devices

on occasions usb printer has not been recognised, swapping usb cable ports solved this

also sometimes all that is required is a warm re-boot

No, this is not a USB issue. The touchpad is not connected to the USB subsystem in any case. The OP has determined (from trying different kernels) this to be kernel-related.
