Keyboard problem - MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

This is a problem that came up with my keyboard (MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 - German layout) a few weeks ago and, since I haven’t found a mechanical fault, have deduced that it must be a problem with Opensuse 11.1.

I noticed about 8 weeks ago that I could not get a response with the Up arrow key on the board. You know, between the alpha-numeric part of the board and the number pad, there are the Insert, Delete, Pos1, End, Page up & Page Down keys, and below that are the 4 keys for left, right, up and down.

I thought, that since the keyboard was about 2-3 years old, and since I had moved to the Caribbean from Germany, dust, humidity, heat, has probably taken a toll on the thing and I decided to get a new one, which I did. Brand new, still in the box (last time I EVER do that here, the duty was almost as much as the actual board).

I shut down my PC, plugged the new board in after removing the old one, rebooted, and hey presto … I had the same problem, the Up arrow button would not work. It works on a game I have here, 2D Shoot 'em up, but not on anything else I can find. Not on FF to scroll down line by line, Konqueror, Openoffice, Thunderbird, nothing.

I never realised how much I use that key. I have checked the settings for the keyboard, and all is well there. I can’t figure it out.

Please someone help.

Same keyboard type.

It may be related to the printscreen shortcut, evdev or the auto-login feature :open_mouth:
