This morning AFTER I logged onto the laptop, I had to press REAL HARD (like I might break something) in order for it to respond.
When Logging on initially, I can type the password with ease, so it appears to be a UI problem, not hardware.
It has been working great for several months until this.
I’m not sure if I installed any updates yesterday, but I may have.
Any Ideas?
Further experimenting revealed that it is a DELAY issue, not pressure. The character is not displayed unless the key is held for a couple of seconds. No pressure is required. There is a KDE setting for “keyboard repeat”, but this problem is regarding the initial display of the character.
When I log into the console after startup I can type fine, the delay is only within the KDE session.
Try making a backup copy of your .kde4 directory (it’s a hidden directory under your home directory) then deleting the .kde4 directory. Then immediately log out and back in. You’ll end up with fresh default configured KDE desktop.
If the keys work properly then you can selectively copy stuff back from the backed up .kde4 directory to the new .kde4 directory. To be safe just copy the stuff that relates to the various kde apps in the ./kde4/share/apps directory and corresponding rc files from the .kde4/share/config. That way should at least recover the settings of the kde apps.
Good luck.
[EDIT] Oops, I just saw that you are running kde3. I’m not sure if the paths will be the same but the principle should still apply.
Thanks!
That worked great. I did it via console:
mv .kde4 orig.kde4
Than I just logged into my brand new KDE session.
Luckily, I did not do m/any desktop modifications ,so all is well.
I do have KDE4, It is just really hard to edit anything with a 2 sec KB delay…
