Just using Gnome on openSUSE for a few hours now. The main menu looks great but there is one problem with it. If you press Alt-F1 to get to the menu, you can start typing in the search box but that only does a desktop search, not an application search.
If there’s one thing I like from KDE 4, it’s the way they handle the main menu. Once the menu is opened, every keystroke will reduce the number of suggested applications. This means that you can start apps very quickly, e.g. pressing Alt-F1, p, i, d and Enter is enough to start Pidgin from the menu.
Is there any chance we can get the same behavior for Gnome in the future? Anything I can do to facilitate this (open an issue somewhere perhaps)?
Alt-F2 is a bit closer, off course, but I’d really like having a keyboard shortcut for the application chooser window. Just try starting a terminal from Gnome with Alt-F2 and you’ll know what I mean.
I don’t see any way to add a keyboard shortcut to the application chooser window atm though – is this something to address in openSUSE or should I rather go and open an enhancement request for Gnome itself?
