Have the kernel versions from Leap 42.3 to 15 and Tumbleweed gone backwards from previous versions?
Leap 42.3 was running kernel 4.4-ish while 15 and Tumbleweed seem to have fallen backwards to 4.1-ish

That’s for Leap 15.0. What kernel version are you seeing?
Check that you are using openSUSE repositories.
Leap-42.3 is currently kernel-4.4.76
Leap-15.0 is currently using kernel-4.12.14
TW currently kernel-4.17.3
Thank you. I see where my confusion came from.
I read 4.4.76 as four four seven … and 4.12.14 as four one two, thus making the mistake that 4.4 was older than 4.12
