I’ve spent some time compiling and using a Vanilla Kernel with the PREEMPT-RT patch applied. I was just wondering if there is any issue using a much later kernel than the one supplied with the OS. For example, I think openSUSE 12.3 shipped with 3.7, is there any issue using kernel version 3.17?
I doubt there should be an issue, but I’d probably put a higher priority on upgrading at least to 13.1 first with its own more current kernel before experimenting with an even newer kernel.
You will likely find that a more modern OS has better means to take advantage of newer kernel features.
