Hi,
I have installed openSuSE 12.3 on my system (want to run OFED-1.5.2 and MVAPICH2)
OpenSuSE 12.3 has 3.7.10.1. kernal version. OFED does not support this kernal version.
**How i can install 2.6.31.5-0.1 kernal version on opensuse 12.3? **
(i am new to Linux and step wise instructions will be of great help)
thanks in advance
That kernel was included in openSUSE 11.2, so just install an RPM from there:
Index of /pub/opensuse/discontinued/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse
I would suggest to download kernel-desktop, just open the downloaded package and the installer should start.
I can’t guarantee though that you won’t run into troubles with a kernel that old.
But 12.3 keeps more than one kernel, so you can switch to another one again on the boot menu (“Advanced options”).
And you should maybe lock that 2.6.31 kernel in YaST->Software Management so it doesn’t get replaced by an update…
12.3 is using systemd and systemd v195 has as requirement kernel >= 2.6.39. I would not try to experiment especially if you are new to Linux. May be you could try newer versions of both products?
