Kernel upgrade to 2.6.39-30-desktop and HP printer

Hi All,

I have a strange problem with the latest kernel. After installing the latest kernel when i power off the printer my computer hangs and the only way is to cut the power.

With the kernel 2.26.37.6 there was no problem.

I have HPLIP 3.11.5 installed

I have HP laser 1020 – doesn’t work in Tumbleweed. I’m going to revert to 11.4 clean install and take it slowly up, see if I can sort that out. But that of course won’t help you. At least my experience together with yours points to a likely bug. My current kernel is 2.6.39-30.1 and hplip 3.11.1-6.1 (which I junked to try the individual driver from the net).

I installed the new Kernel 2.6.39-1-31 and that has the same problem. Power-off the HP printer and opensuse stops

Sounds like a kernel crash.

Try to remove the printer when you are at a text console (not X) and
see if there are some messages printed out there.

Then file a bug with that information and we will be glad to work on it.

thanks,

Hi Greg,

I tested it again on a different computer with the same result
I use the 64 bit version of Opensuse 11.4 and tried HPLIP version 3.11.5-32.1 and 3.11.5-1.3.1.
HP printer Photosmart B109n

I did two options:
Remove the USB from the printer, power off the printer and reinsert the cable again → No problems
With the calble connected i power off the printer and then i See kernel errors as shown in the image.
