Kernel Upgrade Causes Screens Go Blank During Login

I just received an update to kernel version 5.14.21-15-4.24.69-default. The update appears to have go in with no issues, but after I get past the login screen, I have one monitor a solid green and the second blank. I tried KDE w/X11 and w/Wayland with no luck. GNOME gives me basically the screens, but with the added continuous beeps from the computer.
Anyone else have issues with this kernel version?

I was able to get my system back up and running by booting the .66 version of the kernel which was still available via Grub. Is there an easy way to remove the offending kernel?

This is almost certainly hardware specific and you provided zero information about your system.

You can remove it and lock kernel-default package so it will not update, but if you can reliably reproduce it by only booting different kernel it sounds like regression that should be reported to bugzilla (otherwise all subsequent kernel updates will probably have it). https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/, same user/password as here.

My apologizes for not providing any hardware because I wasn’t sure just what information would be helpful. Is there something within KDE that provides the information that would help?

Run inxi -GSaz in Konsole and paste its I/O here using PRE tags. The .24.69 kernel just hit the mirrors, so I haven’t installed it anywhere yet.

Here is the same from the .69 kernel. I can only run it in a terminal at runlevel 3.

I also have a problem with this kernel version. The display goes on and off repeatedly and then reboots.

Same as the OP, I got that reading from the fallback kernel version. I have also (hopefully) marked the fallback version to no be deleted following the instructions from this help page

I added “5.14.21-150400.24.63-default” to the field “multiversion.kernels” in zypp.conf. If this isn’t the way to keep that version, someone please let me know

That’s wrong, it should be package version and package version is just 5.14.21-150400.24.63.1.

You can also simply lock kernel-default* packages to prevent them from being updated.

This issue is being tracked officially here:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1213304
I have not had the opportunity to attempt to backport the old AMD driver into the new kernel yet to help track down the issue.

I attempted to use the previous version of the amdgpu driver with no luck. Note that I followed the instructions from the bug I opened. Not sure what else to try right about now.

Correction, I believe using the amdgpu.ko from the .66 kernel did fix the problem. Long story short, I didn’t correctly create the new initrd file like I should have. See the bug report for details. Not sure what else I can do to track down the issue any further.

Looks like this was addressed in the .81 version of the kernel…WOOT!
