Kernel update lost me my graphical desktop

I recently installed 11.3 from DVD
Am using Ubuntu Lucid Grub2 bootloader as I have several OS’s
Updated Grub so that the new kernel version 4 would boot but it boots to a command line…
What has happened to my desktop?
I’m sure that there is a simple solution…does anyone know what it is???

Possibly no X system and/or a non-loadable graphics driver. What is your graphics card/chipset and what driver were you expecting to be loaded?

If so, you will find these links useful:

PS. A warm welcome to the forum.

If you installed the the ATI proprietary driver from the ATI website, take a look at this thread:
ATI driver + kernel update: before you reboot and before you complain…

Sorry, there was a problem with the first of the two links. Have corrected it in this quote.

Thanks guys…I’ll look into these links at the weekend!!!
