Kernel patch 1593 conflicts with wireless

I have my wireless working and some other issues keep conflicting with my wireless aside from kernel patch 1593. Each time I change something I lose my wireless and have to reinstall some package.

the update conflicts with compat-wireless-kmp-pae

the message says

compat-wireless-kmp-pae-2.6.30.9_2.6.27.7_9.1-2.1.i586 requires kernel(pae:mm) = b853ab28d43f4e8e, but this requirement cannot be provided

Any ideas of how to do the update and keeping wireless?

I use the madwifi, madwifi-kmp-default, madwifi-kmp-pae, & compat-wireless-kmp-pae for my athero ar 9285

I don’t keep track of what compat-wireless packages are available, nor
do I know why that flavor is not available, but there must be i586
packages for 32-bit kernels. Do you really need PAE, i.e. do you have
more than 3 GB RAM?

You do have the option of building your own version of compat-wireless
from source. To do this, you would need the kernel headers and things
like make and gcc.

I have 3 gig of ram. Not really sure why I ended up with Pae but after an update I had it. I’m not really sure how to build packages from source.

The first thing you should do is select a kernel without PAE. Not only
might it allow you to find a compat-wireless that will work with your
kernel, but it will also be faster. PAE is a bad workaround for a
32-bit addressing problem. As long as you have 3 GB, you do not need it.

You don’t need to build a package, you only need to build the binary
codes, but we won’t go through that step unless necessary. Try for a
non-PAE kernel first. I am running x86_64, so I cannot give you the
kernel package names, but find something without PAE in the name.

I did a fresh install with 11.2 and don’t have the kernel issues anymore and wireless works fine.
