Hi. does anybody know what is the kernel desktop flavour and what is the difference with the standard one? wich one is better for a laptop (suspende, resume, wifi etc etc) ?
What do you man by “kernel desktop” ? Note the kernel is very different from the desktop. Could you perhaps brush up on some openSUSE concepts and rephrase your question ? Concepts - openSUSE
Kernel desktop is optimized for desktop usage. 1000 Hz timer, Full preemptation and -O2 compile flags instead of -Os. kernel desktop can have a bit lower throughput than the default one due to full preempt but for desktops it offers better latency for apps and multimedia. The rest is the same with the standard kernel so if suspend doesn’t work on standard, it won’t work on desktop either
@oldcpu - there’s kernel-desktop in HEAD
Hmmm … learning something new every day.
Maybe its me who has to brush up on Linux concepts. rotfl!
no surprise you didn’t catch it. It was released only a few days ago, afaik. Though there was a request on openFATE to split the kernel for desktops and servers and the request is more than one month or so old
