Kernel Crash?

I updated some software and possibly the Kernel on my Opensuse 11.4. Now I’m getting the following message:

FATAL: Module Processor not found
FATAL: Module Thermal not found
FATAL: Module fan not found, etc.

With “Failsafe”, I can get a command line. But I can’t start KDE and so on.

Besides, “mkinitrd -A”(As advised somewhere else) didn’t help?

Do I have to reinstall Suse, how should I proceed?

Ok, then verify the install. First, do “rpm -qa | grep -i kernel”, and post
it here between code tags (advanced editor, #).

Not yet.

In the meantime, unfortunately, became unable to log in as root?(Tried all the “Failsafe”-options)

Try fsck from rescue cd/dvd.

Carlos, thank you for your answers!

I used FSCK from the KDE-Live-CD. But everything looks “clean”.

Guess will have to reinstall everything?(Will need DVD?)

I think you have to try what I told you earlier, perhaps from the rescue
dvd. You can tell rpm where the root is, that is, your hd.

I downloaded the DVD(Had only the KDE-Live-Cd before). Then used something like the repair option(Not complete reinstall). Where I unselected some new Kernel-Packages, in order to be able to use a previous Kernel-Version.

Since then, I could reboot the System, no Data was lost! Therefore, everything is alright!

Again: Thanks a lot for your help!

Configure multiversion for your kernel before you update it.
