Note: openSUSE12.1-kernel & ati graphic install

kernel 3.1.3-2.1.x86_64 was compiled with gcc45
— warnings on install of ati-driver-installer-11-11-x86.x86_64.run

kernel 3.1.4-1.1.x86_64 was compiled with gcc46
— normal install of ati-driver-installer-11-11-x86.x86_64.run

It seems to me that the OP noticed the ati installer complaining that the newer kernel was compiled with a gcc older than expected.

Possibly, but an explicit question is always better than having to guess
