kernel 5.15.5 unusual boot messages: Assuming drive cache: write through

After updating to TW 20211201 and kernel 5.15.5, there are some new messages appearing on text console during boot:

Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Asking for cache data failed
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] Asking for cache data failed
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdc] Asking for cache data failed
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdd] Asking for cache data failed
Dec 04 08:09:42 kosmos1 kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdd] Assuming drive cache: write through

It seems this may be a bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215137

As I understand it, if any of these drives are actually write-back instead of write-though they will be vulnerable to corruption on power cuts. Is it safe to use 5.15.5?

For now I’ve elected to boot with 5.15.3 instead of 5.15.5.

Hi
I suspect it won’t take long to arrive in Tumbleweed since it’s already in stable… Welcome - openSUSE Build Service
