kernel -2.6.36-rc2-3-default broken

Is anyone using the latest kernel from kernel head having problems?
during the installation I caught a warning that the ext4 module wasn’t found and it won’t boot

With ext4 and 2.6.36-rc2, I got disk errors. Sometimes it would not boot and
other times the partition would just go off-line. Others had file system
corruption. I’m through with ext4 for the foreseeable future. Using PartedMagic,
I copied the info to a scratch disk, rebuilt an ext3 file system, and reloaded
the info.

I can confirm that 2.6.36-rc2 doesn’t boot, but unfortunately I don’t know if I had ext4 errors, because I wasn’t by the computer while installing. :\ It’s the first kernel from that repo that doesn’t work for me  (Yes I know-untested, etc…)

I should check the forum before upgrade… System was down and failed to recover through chroot during the process of mkinitrd. Now reinstalled the whole system.

I like to keep a stable kernel besides the latest from head. that way if the experimental kernel fails I can still use my system.

I’m using kernel 2.6.36-rc2 on my 11.4 partition. The only problem I’ve had is I had to set -ignoreABI to get nvidia driver to work.

Otherwise it looks good.

is that a boot option? Are you using ext4?

They just re-released kernel-default-2.6.36-rc2.4.1.i586.rpm revision v.4 for Opensuse 11.2

It goes in xorg.conf under Section “ServerFlags”.

Section “ServerFlags”
Option “IgnoreABI” “True”
EndSection

And yes, I’m on ext4.

Running 2.6.36-rc2-5.1 inside VirtualBox 3.2.8 (yes, the previous releases were broken)
Netbeans 6.9.1 with MySQL 5.1.50 are working well / 100% so far

Thanks for the designers “fixing it” and also thanks to the testers like us “sharing”

Yes I can confirm 2.6.36-rc2.5 is working

I’ve updated to -rc2.5.1 and I no longer need -ignoreABI for nvidia.
Nice!

I’m running 2.6.36-rc2-5-default

linux-s30d:/home/strzol # uname -a
Linux teras 2.6.36-rc2-5-default #1 SMP 2010-08-27 16:26:16 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

on ext4 without any problem so far.

2.6.36-rc2-5.1 on 11.3 32bit, ext4 wouldn’t load for me. Think I’ll wait a while before trying again. Best of luck to everyone!

2.6.35-rc3-6-desktop (x64) running like a champ in an otherwise-stock 11.4 M1 (the kernel was the only change).

2.6.35-rc3-6-desktop ran great for me too. Don’t think I’m gonna try 2.6.36 anytime soon.

You may want to rethink that.

I’m running 2.6.36-rc3.10.1 (x64) without a hitch (as usual, the rest of 11.4 M1 is as-is). Compile date is 4 September 2010 (yesterday).
