Kenel 3.1 is in EOF soo why suse dont update opensuse kernel to 3.2+?

i just want to know Kenel 3.1 is in EOF soo why suse dont update opensuse kernel to 3.2+?

The choice to EOL for kernel version 3.1.10 was made by kernel.org and not by openSUSE and except for security updates on the kernel (should anotherone ever come out), its doubtful there will be a kernel upgrade to 3.2 in openSUSE 12.1 as all efforts are heading to the next openSUSE version 12.2 and kernel 3.3 it would appear. In the mean time you can upgrade your own kernel with little trouble. Have a look at these utils:

S.A.K.C. - SUSE Automated Kernel Compiler - Version 2.62 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

AND

S.G.T.B. - SuSE Git Kernel Tarball Creator - Version 1.80 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You (for using openSUSE),

Like most other distros openSUSE provides updates to the kernel-version that comes with the released version. So, if a version comes with kernel 3.1.* it will receive updates, patches and fixes for 3.1 only. This does not mean patches/fixes are not provided, they’re applied to the 3.1 packages.

If for one or another reason you insist on using a newer kernel, you have James’ options, or you can add the Kernel:/stable/standard repo, and have the latest stable kernel. Since that would take you away from the default distro / official repos, you may find it harder to get support if you run into trouble. Yet another option is to move your system to openSUSE Tumbleweed, search the forums, there’s a lot to find about Tumbleweed.
