I want to reinstall OpenSUSE 11.1 on an existing Opensuse 11.1 installation.
Hardrive has only got Opensuse installed in it.
I need to be 10000% sure my Home directory wont get deleted.
How do i configure the partitioning menu for that to happen?
Or the other solution would be to solve this Protocol not supported sysinfo error i get when trying to access home directory of my old OpenSUSE installation, which i cant access directly anymore

do not reinstall…imo, it is most likely that there is something
wrong IN your /home and a reinstall will not change or fix it!!
what is the exact error you get? (exact copy of the entire error verbage)
how, when and where does it show itself?
how are you trying to access your home?
are you able to sign in as yourself?
have you ever signed into KDE or Gnome (etc) as root?
I’ve just installed the KDE4.3 Live CD on my second machine (where I had nothing of value any longer in /home) and the installer just left /swap and /home alone and only touched /. All I had to do was confirm that that was what I wanted to do.
Situation is this
I am now running from a second hardrive, on the first hardrive i had opensuse installed aswell, did a KDE 4.3 update and now all i get when rebooting and logging in is massive flickering all over the screen and very very slow response from the PC.
Thing is, i dont mind reinstalling, problem is, i do not know which options to check on the partitioning setup plus i cant access the first hardrive from this functioning opensuse because i get that “Protocol not supported sysinfo”

Theres the outpost. I had this same issue some time ago, asked here on forums too but there was no solution.
PC Specs: AMD Phenom X4, ATI HD2600XT
Easiest solution i cant think of is just a reinstall of the whole opensuse on the malfunctioning hardrive, but for that, i want to be completely sure my /home directory wont get deleted.
I want to know what should i do under Partitioning while reinstalling Opensuse.
PD: sbd drive is malfunctioning, the 320 GB one. I am now running from the 250 GB sda
