Keep getting blank screen in M6 Gnome

Hi,

I installed M6 from 32bit Gnome Live CD. My box has GeForce 7300GS Nvidia video card. There’s no problem with display in Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.10 for Fedora 14, or in previously installed 11.3 32-bit Gnome, but I keep getting blank screen every 1-2 seconds in openSUSE 11.4 M6. Is this because of incorrect driver or what? This is driving me nut!

I would appreciate your suggestion to solve this pesky problem. Thanks in advance!

What happens in Failsafe
And did you install the nvidia driver?

Hi caf4926,

I was able to boot in failsafe mode, but I didn’t know what to do after logging in! Under normal logging in, Hardware Information shows that the video card is PCI Nvidia GeForce 7300GT and the driver is nouveau. Somehow nouveau was installed automatically, because I did not intentionally install it. In previously installed 11.3, I did not knowingly install (nvidia?) but everything works. By the way, I use a 19" LCD monitor from Acer.

nouveau is the default driver for nvidia

I would download the nvidia driver form nvidia and install it manually
Assume you know how? And how to use nomodeset in the boot options?

Howdy,

Usually for me, Nvidia needs the nomodeset kernel parameter at startup.

Hello hermanab and caf4926,

Thanks for your suggestion but after logging in I could not access Yast, the terminal or my browser; nothing happened when I hit the Computer button in the lower left corner of the task bar. I ended up re-installing openSUSE 11.3 KDE.
