That is a Windows concept.
As updates to drivers are propagated from the newest kernel back to 2.6.37,
openSUSE will apply them and generate a new kernel for 11.4. When you update
your kernel, you get the new drivers.
Not all changes can be backported. To get them, you would need to update the
kernel from 2.6.37 to 3.0 or 3.1 (soon to be released).
This is only an issue for third party drivers (drivers that you acquire from another site, and install yourself). For those, you need to check the site where you obtained the drivers.
For anything else, the driver update is automatic.
And that’s why most of us prefer to avoid third party drivers whenever we can.
