Hi, I’ve downloaded opensuse 11.1 live CD version that comes with KDE 4.2 RC installed. Everything works fine (nvidia drivers, plasmoids, etc) except that I can’t change KDM4 themes, in fact, i’m not really sure if it really is using KDM4. When I go to Desktop-> Display manager -> DISPLAYMANAGER in the /etc/sysconfig file it says it’s using kdm4.
The screen I get in the login screen has a blue background, without any styles, it seems like kdm’s classic theme.
I’d really appreciate help with this issue.
thanks.
I installed the Live CD on a machine here, and I also have tried using the default openSUSE themes, and can’t change it.
No big deal for me as the system runs and works just fine otherwise.
I installed it just to see what it was like. I will probably remove it and put openSUSE 11.1 DVD install on and just add the factory desktop repo.
Thanks, I was able to “get it working” after searching a lot. It seems that in the file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager the string DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME=“oxygen” was missing. After adding it with kwrite and restarting my PC it was there. The bad thing is that I can’t change to another KDM theme with the Login Manager of the system settings, instead I guess I’ll have to edit the file displaymanager every time I’d like to change of theme until I come up with the solution.
If anyone knows how to deal with this problem, I’d be grateful if you helped me. :shame:
You can use yast2 to edit your displaymanager and theme.
In yast2 it is in system-/etc/sysconfig Editor/Displaymanager
If you want to change the theme it is in yast2 system-/etc/sysconfig Editor-system-Boot-THEME
Thanks for the help conram ;), that makes it much easier (although it is not as comfortable as using the Login Manager in the Personal Settings but I can live with it).
One of million KDE4 bugs. I have KDE 4.2.2 and it is not even BETA quality. I mean, look at Windows 7 beta. You can use it daily and if you find a critical bug, consider yourself an unlucky ba***rd. I use Linux on daily basis and have not used Win7 or Vista for months, but I am getting more and more frustrated. KDE4 seems to be much slower than Vista or 7 on my box…
