I tried to install the Novell Client v2 on OS 11.2 but it failed
miserably. I have since deleted it but now I have this nagging
remnant which is
Sorry- The KDE Session Manager
KDEInit could not launch ‘gnome-starter.bsh’.:
Could not find ‘gnome-starter.bsh’ executable.
Where can I find the reference to this and get rid of it. I
assume it is in an init script somewhere.

Followed instructions on installing Novell client on OS11.2 found here:

opensuse-112
I am not familiar with that Novell client install specifically, but if KDE does continue to start in a usable form, have you looked at your KDE System Settings - Advanced - Autostart? That is how you can “autostart” scripts and apps when KDE starts.
The following page may also be of help - it describes the boot procedure of the KDE system: KDE System Administration/Startup - KDE TechBase.
