KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/kdesu'

I copied a desktop icon for Kate to my home/username/Desktop directory so I could launch it from there. In the properties window I have checked “Run as a different user” with Username: root, and the application launch command is “kate %U”. This works, Kate opens and I can edit and save files with superuser privileges (which I need to do for some configuration files).

The problem (maybe just an annoyance) is that when I close the Kate session, I get a “Sorry - Plasma Workspace” alert with the following message in it:

KDEInit could not launch ‘/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/kdesu’

Anyone know what this means and how to resolve it? Thanks very much in advance.

You are going about it the wrong way. To edit a file as su do this from a user terminal:

kdesu kwrite /path/to_file

Eg:

kdesu kwrite /etc/fstab

Is it necessary to add “path/to/file”? Since kate can open a session that itself may contain numerous files, can one just type “kdesu kate”?

Indeed one can;)
