I downloaded Google Chrome, right-clicked on the downloaded package (google-chrome-stable_current_i386.rpm), and selected Open. I was prompted for the root password, and the installation appeared to start. However, I received the error “KDEInit could not launch /usr/bin/apper”. I just installed opensuse 12.1 on my Intel Celeron 2.93 GHz x86 PC with 2 GB of memory, so perhaps I need to install/initialize apper? I’d appreciate any help. Thx.
Now apper is some sort of KDE interface to KpackageKit, but it is not how you should install Chrome. Now I notice you got the i386 file, is that right? You did not install the 64 bit version of openSUSE 12.1? Anyway, I suggest you start Dolphin (It looks like a filing Cabinet on the Task Bar), go your Downloads folder (/home/username/Downloads), right click on the file google-chrome-stable_current_x86.rpm (I don’t know the exact name you have) then select Open With & **Install/Remove Software **(and not apper). So I would not use apper, but perhaps it should work and you can always report is as being a bug for KDE.
