KDE4init failed

hi,
I just installed openSUSE 11.0 and after the first boot and all the updates, which stated that the computer needs to be rebooted, I rebooted the computer and after the login screen, it gave me an error “KDE4init fail to start, check your installation” … anyway to resolve this other than… installing openSUSE again?

Hi, I have the same problem. :frowning:

This happened before, when I installed the previous version of SuSE (10.3, I think).

In the end as a Newbie, I have now given up, and gone back to the original SuSE 11.0 setup disk and disabled updates.

Not a very good solution and I haven’t found the answer.

If you do, would you be good enough to post the solution here? :\

zypper update

you can start icewm from login kdm
and start konsole from menu.
or you can run zypper from vt2
ctl alt F2

ramaswamyps - as a Newbie, I’m afraid you’ve lost me on that one. I have trouble with icewm anyway.

I reinstalled SuSE 11.0 and ran everything as root, rebooting after each set of patches, doing the Security updates last and now it boots OK. There are other problems with the Grub loader, but I have that on another thread.
