KDE4 Tutorials

I would like to find a good KDE4 tutorial that’s visual in nature. I want to explore all the new features of our new toy.

I thought this old post was worth a “bump” with some information:

Here is a link to some kde4 guides/tutorials:
K Desktop Environment - KDE 4.0 Visual Guide

While I am consolidating links, I thought I should add links to these neat tutorials created by brucecadieu who made a few screencasts illustrating some simple day-to-day basics that we all use.

Dragging Icons

Unlocking Widgets

Taskbar settings

Custom Icon

Not exactly a tutorial but here’s a beautiful screencast named “What can KDE 4.1 do for you?” What can KDE 4.1 do for you ? « Free as in free speech

Direct link to the video (71MB)

I would like to re-activate this thread …

A lot has happened in the past year, since the original post.

What are the views of our user base with respect to the most helpful and useful KDE4 video tutorials ? Especially now that KDE-4.3 is out, and the KDE4 desktop is now significantly more stable, and has eye candy that now outshines that of KDE-3.5.10.

I am allergic to eye heroin.

Personally, I wouldn’t look at a video tutorial. Bandwidth is a bit constrained and I don’t see this as the way forwards. This is probably a minority view, though…

Especially now that KDE-4.3 is out, and the KDE4 desktop is now significantly more stable,

More stable that earlier versions were, not actually absolutely stable. Maybe soon.

and has eye candy that now outshines that of KDE-3.5.10.

Yes, the eye candy is the pull (for me), but right now I’ve gone back to kde 3.5 (and flirting occasionally with enlightenment) because I can’t stand the various problems. At this point, the crashes are probably curable, but after various struggles and wastes of time getting this far I’ve run out of enthusiasm; maybe next week. The functionality problems are probably more difficult, but at the current rate of progress, maybe something like 4.3.2 will be marginally useable for an ordinary user.

Mind you, when 4.1 was current, I thought that about 4.2, so what do I know?
