Hi people
after fresh install of Opensuse 11.2 and online update, the window decoration settings disappeared from my “configure desktop” applet
Now I’m doomed to some default window decorations.
Any idea?
now it looks like that:
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/689/sete.png
>:(>:
before I forget:
it happens with any user, even if I create a new user or remove .kde .kde4 in user’s directory
so it seems to be a system-wide problem >:)>:)
Hmmm…don’t know for sure since I’m not yet using openSUSE 11.2 or KDE 4.3+… but I’m wondering if a package is missing. Do you have kde4-kwin package installed?
well, it WORKED after a new install, but then, I was just online updating / adding themes to KDE and teh settings disappeared
it sucks…
I’m doomed to 15p fonts and window decorations for dummies
if that helps:
my last operation was to install KDM skins via personal seetings - login manager - theme - install new theme
after that I logged in and out and my desktop already appeared little screwed (task bar was small) etc. And the personal settings were broken. I cannot say 100% it was from these skins, however I just relogged after that. Before, I just did online update.
This was the latest install operation. however I do not understand how KDM skin could break KDE control center?
I deinstalled all these skins now - no effect!
I reinstalled now all RPMS matching kdebase* kderuntime* branding theme from the DVD media - no effect!
It drives me completely crazy to give up Suse Linux… this behaviour is impossible for production use - break your system just by installing a KDM skin???
I’m trying to install it again on a second partition to try to figure out what is the difference
At the moment I can only past you the files (as my system is busy installing on second partition):

You should NOT use QT46
And VideoLan (vlc) should be disabled (for multimedia happiness)
I assume the prob is in some config file - as reinstalling the base packages does not help (afaik rpm will keep changed config files so it has no effect). So not the binaries are broken.
Is there a way to force a sweep of config files if I reinstall packages?
Is there a way to debug the personal settings? So bad there is no log
I do not use QT4.6 actually (or I’m not aware of)

go back to the main 4
oss, non-oss, update, packman
then run
zypper dup
go back? you mean disable/remove that QT4.6 repo?
what does “dup”? can do that after my other install finished…

29 packages to upgrade, 5 to downgrade, 52 new, 4 to remove, 34 to change vendor.
Overall download size: 45.5 MiB. After the operation, additional 33.3 MiB will be used.
OK I ‘solved’ the problem - however by a brutal method.
now it looks like it should look:
http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/5346/snapshot1h.png
I’ve reinstalled from the DVD media all RPMS:
kde4*
qt
kdm
going to online update now another time from these original packages - lets hope it does not happen again >:)>:)
BTW why suse does not provide updated DVD media? It is always a mess to download a DVD and then having to upgrade 2GB od packages
unfortunately… now I CANNOT start the “show desktop” widget - it shows an error icon instead
bad
