/.kde4, /lost+found and others in root directory??

maybe everything changed while i was stuck in 10.3 but i noticed soon
after install, and am just getting around to asking:

i find these directories in the system’s root directory very surprising:

/.config (with one file inside Trolltech.conf, which is empty)
/.kde4
/.kde4/share (empty)
/lost+found (empty)
/clicboot (with LOTs of stuff inside, including)

/clicboot:
../ ../ boot/

/clicboot/boot:
../ System.map-2.6.34-12-default boot.readme grub/
memtest.bin symvers-2.6.34-12-default.gz vmlinuz@
.../ boot@ config-2.6.34-12-default initrd@
message vmlinux-2.6.34-12-default.gz vmlinuz-2.6.34-12-default

/clicboot/boot/grub:
../ e2fs_stage1_5 ffs_stage1_5 jfs_stage1_5
reiserfs_stage1_5 stage2 vstafs_stage1_5
.../ fat_stage1_5 iso9660_stage1_5 minix_stage1_5 stage1
ufs2_stage1_5 xfs_stage1_5

anyone have any idea how that stuff got there (or, is it now “standard”)?

some answers you might want:
-openSUSE 11.3 (updates run & accepted)
-KDE4.5.5
-the system was born with those directories/files
-i have not installed anything from Trolltech
-i have not logged into KDE as root
-i have noticed some comments in start/shutdown having to do with VM,
and i have installed no VM software
-(i did a mostly hands off install to a new disk)
-i initially installed KDE4 and have not installed Gnome Base (or
otherwise) yet i see ~/.gvfs which i believe is a Gnome related file
-the system was born with a user named “linux”
-OH, and the system was born with Samba installed, what is with that?

strange!

I have seen similar things on occasion. No idea why, just delete them.

Yet you may have some gnome libraries.

huh?

Intentional, I think.

Hmm, here in 11.3/KDE4.6 I see /.kde4 (empty) and /.config/Trolltec.conf with stuff like:

[Qt%20Plugin%20Cache%204.6.false]
usr\lib64\kde4\plugins\kauth\backend\kauth_backend_plugin.so=40603, 0, x86_64 linux g++-4 full-config, 2011-01-04T14:37:36
usr\lib64\kde4\plugins\kauth\helper\kauth_helper_plugin.so=40603, 0, x86_64 linux g++-4 full-config, 2011-01-04T14:37:36

Per time stamps this file was created when I updated KDE from 4.5 to 4.6 earlier today. The directories are a couple of weeks older.

You may try to move these directories and see what happens.

I have seen many of those things too and I think they are leftovers from the LiveCD. I mean, if you boot up an openSuSE live CD you are logged in as user “Linux”.

/lost+found is created by the filesystem (ext3 / ext4).

Someone please quote me, as DenverD has set me on “ignore”.

here you go, quoted as requested:

way for a while and come back and delete them…someday…
