KDE4 disorganizes icons on the desktop

i’ve 6 desktops, with a lot of icons organiced over them, anyone in the place i like. Sometimes (once a mont or so) when i boot mi computer, all the icons on all the desktops apears reorganiced: All on the left side of the screen and all equally spaced. I don’t want it to happen anymore because each time it happens i lose half an hour reorganicing them.
I’ve tried to mark in the desktop the option “icons fixed”, and I’ve tried to update KDE to the repo KDE instead of the one in the OSS repo, but nothing works, lately instead of disorganicing the icons once a week it happens each 3 to 7 days. It’s a nuisance.

any help?
Thanks

i’ve experienced the same and came to the conclusion that declaring the
whole desktop a “folderview” is an afterthought, to please those who
insist on sticking icons directly on the desktop, the same way it was done
in KDE 3.x. the “official philosophy” seems to be that there should only
be widgets and other ‘containments,’ i.e., folder views, on the desktop,
in order to keep things organized.

if you do that, set your desktop to be a “desktop” rather than “folder
view,” things are more stable. i rarely experience the icons in separate
folderviews to get ‘reorganized,’ but it regularly happens with icons
directly on the desktop. i’m not particularly attached to do it one way or
the other, so either i set up my desktop as a normal desktop, icons only
within folder views, or i use very few icons in a folder view desktop,
that can be quickly rearranged.

phani.

If you use Folder view, maybe what happens to you it’s the same that happens to me. See this thread.
Or are you referring to widgets?
