Alright after removing KDE4 I decided to experiment a bit and did a reinstall of KDE4, and it seems that kde4 now works better then ever!
But now I have an issue, we all know about the audio CD issue with KDE4, where if you pop in a music CD it wont work with KDE4 apps.
Well looks like this issue is true with blank DVD’s.
I recently got a DVD burner for this computer, works fine playing movie DVD’s and nautilus picks my blank DVD’s right away…
But KDE4, no not detected.
So uhh err, how do I get KDE4 apps to recognize my blank DVD’s, much less audio CD’s?
Its a good thing I have Gnome on standby though
Try: KsCD for audio cd’s
Does k3b not see when you put a blank DVD in?
I know there is no desktop notification.
No as for some odd reason I now have K3B for KDE4… thank goodness I have brasero, but still this means that blank DVD’s are unreadable by KDE4 apps.
and KsCD does not work for my audio disks, I have to use banshee for that.
You should be able to install k3b kde3 version from packman. I have both installed.
Both work too, thought the kde4 version has limited functions.
What repo’s are you using for kde4?

Lucky I know how to use the alternatives when needed, I just wondered if it was theoretically possible to get KDE4 to see my blank DVD’s
Unless you want unstable apps in kde4 as the factory goes to 4.3
remove repo 1 and 2 and replace with
Index of /repositories/KDE:/42/openSUSE_11.1
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1_KDE_42
Do update all unconditionally in both those repo’s
There will be many roll backs (ie; when you open software management you will see lots of RED)
repo 3 and 13 in the list need disabling
then do update all unconditionally in Packman
expect dependency issues. save to file and post here if you can’t figure them out.
Very well, I only enabled factory as it was what offered KDE 4.2 at the time, I dont like KDE 4.1 and thats probably a leftover config from when I started experimenting with OpenSuse when KDE 4.2 first started to become final.
