KDE4.3 update issues.(11.2 MS3)

opensuse 11.2 Milestone 3
kde 4.3.0 rc2 release 142
Konqueror 4.3 rc2

I updated to KDE4.3 yesterday. After working thru the
dependency nightmare. I got everything working. Still
have a few issues.

  1. on boot I’m back to the checkerboard pattern during
boot and sometimes when switch desktop screens. This
was solved in 11.1 by deleting two files in
~/kde4/config. but I cannot remember which two and a
searc does not find it. I think it was in the boot
install news group. Does anyone with a younger memory
than me remember the two fines.

  2. starting konqueror always ask if I want to download
shockwave flash player. "No plugin flound for
shockwave Flash file. Do you want to download one from
openSUSE? Does matter what I answer nothing downloads.
Will report as bug. I have the flash-player installed

zypper in flash-player
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…
‘flash-player’ is already installed.
Resolving package dependencies…

Nothing to do.

Anyone else see this?

  1. within knode the composer Help → About kontact
works. Help About KDE does not after first time used.
Anyone see this. I will report as bugs.

Which repo did you update KDE from?

I’ve kept M3 to KDE 4.3 beta2 and don’t have any of those problems.

Just did another update and Konqueror problem still
exists.

Have not rebooted yet so don’t know about that.

The knode issue appears fixed.

Some dependence issues in OpenOffice are still there
so the three rpms with them were left alone and
OpenOffice appears to work.

The boot issue is also occuring on my opensuse 11.1
install that is at kde 4.2. It has to do with Nvidia
graphics.

Had to install Nvidia driver the hardway because of
dependences that could not be solved.

I’ve got KDE 4.3 RC2 on 11.2-M3 and don’t have problem 1. I don’t use
Konqueror for anything any more so don’t know about 2. I haven’t noticed 3
but I’ll logon to my 11.2 system later and have a peek.

Problem 1 is real for nVidia cards.
A little bit funny and “old fashioned” in my opinion, so I understand that it’s not a priority, but still a little bug.

Problems 2 and 3 don’t affect me (for now).
Tnx.
Bye, bye.

Now on 11.2-M3 and tried problem 3 but it works fine for me. Sorry.

Thanks for your inputs. I know #3 is a Nvidia driver problem. Before
installing the driver I was using th nv driver (MS2) and did not see
problem. I’m not sure why I have other problems, I did a clean install of
MS3. I’ll post anything I find.
Sending this email from my production system.

Have you done any testing with usb devices on M3 and VBox 2.2.4 or 3.0.2??

I have only tested with a memory stick, and it worked OOTB (no mods) on both releases.

BTW, upgrading VBox to 3.0.2 required no intervention (used Yast with local dir repo). The upgrade automatically recompiled kernel module, with no need for /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup or reboot. I think that is a first for VBox. All settings and VM’s worked on first execution. Progress indeed.
