[KDE4 / 11.3 help] How to dock / undock my laptop cleanly

Ok so, I have got my Dell latitude 4310 setup with openSUSE 11.3 , works awsome. ( 11.3 best release to date by far )

PR30x docking station/ port replicator with 2 external monitors, usb keyboard/mouse

When the system is docked, got my multi-display setup just the way I like. All is well.

When I cold boot the system undocked, display is on the laptop no problem, all is well.

When I dock the system back in and boot it up, my multi-monitor display settings are reset and I have to set them all up again…

that is problem #1 ( how to I have it remember my configuration for being Docked, vs my configuration for when it is undocked )

Problem #2, if I have the system booted in the dock station, and wish to undock it (live / hot-unplugged ) , The display does not reset to be on my laptop screen. Forcing me to power it off and back on.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,

Personally,
I’m not aware that KDE supports multiple hardware profiles.
I do know though that on my laptop nVidia management software appears to do a creditable job.

What video card are you running? Have you tried looking for, installing OEM software?

Tony

I’m running it on a Dell lattitude laptop
It has an Intel graphics card

No OEM software at all , just Out of the box Suse 11.3 w/ updates.

I continue to search for options to have the display configurations change when the system is docked / undocked but have not come up with a solid workaround yet.

I’m toying with the idea of writing a small program to monitor for a common system change when the system is docked or undocked and have it execute an xrandr script upon hitting that change to reconfigure the display at that time.

Will report back on my findings… It’ll be a hack but if it works thats all that matters to me.
