KDE with no taskbar, and so.. no menu, no bottom icons

I clicked somewhere on Suse 11.1, KDE 4.??.. that the taskbar dissapear. Does anybody know what do I have to do to see it again ?

Thanks in advance :expressionless:

If you can still see the widgets icon in the top right corner you should be able to add a menu bar from thereā€¦or have you managed to sort the problem yourself yet?

right click the desktop add panel and add widgets.

first, make sure the desktop is unlocked, right click unlock widgets

Or, if all else fails, create a new account and delete your old one.

I had this happen to me too, a while back. I was trying to switch over to the tradition KDE menu button and I accidentally clicked ā€œRemove K Menu Buttonā€.

I discovered that you canā€™t do anything on your system once the button is gone. Itā€™s one of the worst things you can possibly do to your system to make it essentially useless, and I have no idea why anyone would want to get rid od of this button anyway.

I wound up doing a complete reinstall because of this minor mistake, but hopefully you will be able to avoid this.

Developers. please fix this. Make it more difficult to remove the menu button by adding a ā€œare you sureā€ dialog warning or something.

if your problem is not yet solved

alt ctl F2 ---- vt2
login user

/etc/init.d/xdm stop
rm -rf .kde4
/etc/init.d/xdm start
login your new kde should comeup.

In the ideal world ā€˜foresthillā€™ you can just add a new one. But it doesnā€™t work very well. Not at all really.

Kde3 is fine. But 4 is a problem. I now keep a backup of my .kde4

Well, I have done it ā€œcaf4926ā€. It worked for me.

You missunderstood me, or I didnā€™t explain myself very well. I was talking about adding a new panel and or other widgets. Not about adding a new account.

What you describe ā€˜foresthillā€™ is a good solution, I agree.

Thanks ramaswamyps!!

It works!!

This issue is closed for meā€¦ :):)
